Morningstar’s SunSaver MPPT solar controller with TrakStar Technology™ is an advanced maximum power point tracking (MPPT) battery charger for off-grid photovoltaic (PV) systems. The controller features a smart tracking algorithm that maximizes the energy harvest from the PV and also provides load control to prevent over discharge of the battery.

The SunSaver MPPT is well suited for both professional and consumer PV applications. Its charging process has been optimized for long battery life and improved system performance. This product is epoxy encapsulated for environmental protection, may be adjusted by the user via four settings switches or connection to a personal computer, and has an optional remote meter and battery temperature sensor.

Morningstar’s TriStar MPPT solar controller with TrakStar Technology™ is an advanced maximum power point tracking (MPPT) battery charger for off-grid photovoltaic (PV) systems up to 3kW. The controller provides the industry’s highest peak efficiency of 99% and significantly less power loss compared to other MPPT controllers.

The TriStar MPPT features a smart tracking algorithm that maximizes the energy harvest from the PV by rapidly finding the solar array peak power point with extremely fast sweeping of the entire I-V curve. This product is the first PV controller to include on-board Ethernet for a fully web-enabled interface and includes up to 200 days of data logging.

Communications

Morningstar’s TriStar MPPT controllers are the only PV controllers to offer open communication protocols and true Ethernet-enabled functionality.

The TS-MPPT-600V uses reliable, pre-established industry standard open communication protocols and interfaces to help reduce operational costs and to increase integration efficiencies. As a result, there are neither proprietary network hardware nor software compatibility issues to resolve nor requirement for external gateways. This enables developers to use proven and readily available code to speed development time and and to decrease costs.

  • Protocols: Supports MeterBus™, MODBUS™ RTU and MODBUS TCP/IP™, HTTP, SNMP v2 (for system networking and monitoring) and SMTP

Parallel Operation

The TS-MPPT-600V was engineered to support parallel operation. Up to four TS-MPPT-600V controllers may be used in parallel to manage charging from a single solar or wind input. This enables the use of up to 15kWp of high voltage PV or wind for back up power during a grid outage.

TrakStar™ Technology

The TS-MPPT-600V features an advanced MPPT technology to harvest the maximum energy from the solar array’s peak power point under all operating conditions. This high-speed processing sweeping methodology enables the TS-MPPT-600V to sweep from the PV open circuit voltage (Voc) to the battery voltage faster than any other similar PV controller.
